I found this book enjoyable and fresh when reading from the point of view of the black housemaids in this Mississippi town. I liked and wanted to know as much as I could about these characters. When the narration shifted to the young white woman’s viewpoint, it sometimes seemed a little padded and trite. Several times in these passages I wondered if an editor had asked for more to be added, since the book would be clipping along great then hit a pothole filled with treacle. But it would get back on track again… I enjoyed the book, would recommend it, and look forward to reading more from this author.
