My nine year old son and I have read the entire series to each other at bedtime. This is a wonderful series–one of the best we have ever read. The series is a bit dark as other reviewers have suggested (there is a death of a major character in one of the subsequent books). But it is also laugh out loud funny, often in a scatological way particularly appealing to my nine year old. My daughter read this entire series when she was 13 and also loved it.

I have a Mac and a PC, a logitech usb keyboard and mouse, and a Dell 20 Ultrasharp monitor with a native resolution of 1600×1200.

Both the Mac and PC work perfectly with this switch. All special function keys of the Logitech keyboard work in both computers. My mouse has 7 or 8 buttons and they all work in both computers as well.

The only problem I’ve noticed with this switch is the video at 1600×1200. As another reviewer stated, at this resolution there is ghosting. In particular, when I’m on the PC, I have two barely noticeable darker lines moving across the screen from right to left. When I switch to the Mac, the two dark lines move from left to right. It’s not too terribly distracting, especially if you have a dark desktop background.

I’m thinking of trying the 4 port version of this switch and seeing if the ghosting will continue with the Mac on port 4 and the PC on port 1. I’m hoping that if the two computers are separated a bit more than they are on this 2 port switch, the ghosting will disappear.

However, this 2 port switch is still the best I’ve seen so far. It’s simple to set up, the case is heavy duty metal (even though the switch is roughly the size of two decks of cards, it feels heavy and extremely durable), and it simply works. If you use a lower resolution than 1600×1200, then you should be fine with the ghosting issue.

I guess I’m in the minority. I really wanted to like this book but I hated it. I hated the old man parts. It was such an irritating plot device. I didn’t find old Jacob lovable, I found him annoying. Young Jacob was an alright character but Marlena was like some kind of cardboard cut out. I mean she was just there. She was the most boring love interest I have ever read. August was pretty cool. There were a few good moments between August & Jacob but then a ridiculous plot twist or jumping back to old Jacob ended most of them abruptly.It was like the author didn’t know what to do so she just went back to the old people’s home & talked about jello until she figured out what would happen next. I felt like Jacob’s kindness towards the animals should have taken a center stage so you could really like him for something but this rarely happened. When the old carnie takes Jacob under his wing I found myself asking WHy?? It didn’t really make any sense so I just told myself that he must be a really nice man, he seems to have some depth maybe oh now lets throw him off the train What?? Jacob grieves for his friends for half a paragraph & then he’s off to bang Marelena wtf ? The only redeeming parts of the book were Jacob’s relationship with the dwarf & the old carnie whose name has slipped my mind. There were three parts that i actually found believable & thought provoking. First was Jacob’s reaction to his parents death which was real & written well. Second was when Queenie the dog can’t be found, that was pretty heart-wrenching. Third is Jacob’s decision not to murder August. These parts were interesting & had more depth in describing the character’s motives & feelings. The ending was a slap in the face & i hate that old Jacob in the nursing home. I think the movie has a chance though. Hopefully Reese Witherspoon can make Marlena seem less vapid.

All I have to say is this book was poorly written and painful to read. I would never recommend it. Why so many people thought so highly of it is beyond me.

For what I paid, the product was satisfactory and in excellent condition. However, the Shipping & Handling fee was almost the price of the book which will be a consideration the next time. It took a long time to receive the book – almost a month.
